Hi, It’s Kathryn here from Excel Communications.
Something a little different this time – on the 8th of this month, it’s International Women Day, so in this video, I’m going to talk you through three essential strategies for all budding female leaders out there.
Now, having a y chromosome shouldn’t dictate whether or not you will make a great leader. Your ability depends on individual strengths and personality – but it‘s still the case that women are often overlooked for senior positions and therefore have to try harder than their male counterparts to rebalance gender inequality.
Did you know that of the top 100 FTSE companies, only six are currently led by a woman?
Shocked? I certainly was.
And yet we’ve had some great female leaders down the centuries who have inspired others and proven that their goals can be achieved.
So, what strategies can women employ to get on the pathway to leadership? – In today’s video, I’m going to explore three essentials…
The UK government has set targets for 33 per cent of board members to be female by the end of 2020 – so, what are you waiting for?!
Let’s take a look at the three essential strategies for women looking to climb the career ladder successfully this year…
Number 1 is: Believe you can achieve
It‘s essential to believe in yourself. It sounds obvious, but it’s true: what you tell yourself matters.
That inner voice dictates how you interpret what others say to you, and how you consequently feel and react. Aim to be your own cheerleader and believe you can achieve!
Number 2 is: Never stop learning
A growth mindset is crucial to move you forward towards your goal. It enables your learning and progress, making you open to new ideas and ways of doing things. So, don’t be afraid to seek help from others, try new strategies, and capitalise on setbacks to help you move forward effectively.
By developing a growth mindset, you will embrace a hopeful, optimistic way of looking at experiences, and you’ll learn new things – even on bad days!
And finally, number 3 is: Plan your journey
Think of your career as a path. The decisions you make on that pathway will help you evolve and grow, leading you to achieve your professional goals.
Create your plan and work towards it. Go for roles, even if you don’t have all the skills. It’s attitude that is important. Don’t wait for the invitation: jump right in and embrace the experiences on offer.
And never give up – your experiences will give you perspective and the boost to work towards your ultimate goals.
